Head Space
How are you creating the place in your head? You live most of your life there, ya know. I love the verse in 2 Corinthians that says "we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." In the message version it says, "we use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ." We have self control and we have the power to take our thoughts and change them.
Your thoughts direct and shape your emotion, your attitude, and ultimately your decisions. Make sure they are healthy and real and remember what God says about you. You are worthy, you are good enough, you can do hard things, you are forgiven, you are created for a purpose. Focus on that!
Here are a few tangible things that I do to pull myself out of a funk, when my thoughts start consuming me.
1) Gratitude list. I make a list of things I am thankful for. From the smallest things like coffee to the big things like that I actually woke up and am breathing another day.
2) Do something for someone else. Write a card out or a letter, make someone cookies, or grab a lil flower at the market and take it to someone. Especially if you know someone who is really struggling with something or a situation, be a blessing. It will fill you up!
3) Exercise!! Move your body, go for a walk or jog. Do some yoga. Have a big ole' dance party in your living room. It has been proven over and over that exercise is SO good for your mental health. I can always tell when I haven't exercised in a few days and I think all the people I live with can tell too.
These are only a few things, there are more but know this, you are not alone, you are so loved and it is completely normal to have those days, just don't stay there, friends.
